Since 2007, the Writing Studio has participated in several community outreach projects in Durham. Our volunteers are Writing Studio tutors, UWTs, and trained undergraduates. Projects have included in-service teacher training at Riverside High School and Durham School of the Arts (DSA), one-on-one tutoring with students in DSA's "Academic Literacy" course, in-class workshops and handout development at Riverside, tutoring support for the Durham Public Library's youth writers' program ("Write On!"), and the training of undergraduate mentors to work with students at Githens and Rogers-Herr middle schools in the Science Writers' Investigative Field Trips (SWIFT) program.
