Dr. Eliana Schonberg, Director of the TWP Writing Studio and Assistant Professor of the Practice in Writing Studies, has been named an incoming co-editor of The Writing Center Journal, the official journal of the International Writing Centers Association. The biannual journal, which was launched in 1980, is the primary research journal in the field of writing center studies and has an acceptance rate of 17%. Along with Drs. Pam Bromley of Pomona College and Kara Northway of Kansas State University, she will begin the editorship in January 2018; the three are looking forward to joining the line of previous scholars in shaping the disciplinary conversation of writing center studies. As a founding editor, with Sue Mendelsohn of Columbia University, of Praxis: A Writing Center Journal, Dr. Schonberg is excited to return to working with authors in this capacity.
The editorial team’s vision includes promoting the broad diversity of writing centers throughout higher education and around the world, including emerging writing center scholarship from Canada, Latin America, and the Middle East, and advancing empirical research without losing sight of the strong history of practitioner-based, theoretical scholarship. Here at Duke, Dr. Schonberg plans to use this editorship to introduce graduate and undergraduate Writing Studio consultants to the publication process on an international scale.
